A trumpet player, producer, educator, music licensing A&R, and family man, Farnell Newton is one of the most versatile musicians in the Northwest, playing straight-ahead jazz, funk, Latin music, soul, hip hop, and more. His latest album Lofijazzsoul fuses lo-fi hip hop beats, soul music vibes, and jazz instrumentation to create a feel-good masterpiece.
Over the years, Farnell has toured with 3-time Grammy-winning singer/songwriter/actress Jill Scott, the Legendary Rhinestone Rockstar Funk Bassist Bootsy Collins, and cross-genre ensemble the Portland Cello Project. When Farnell is not performing, he is also composing music at Marmoset where his music has been used for commercials for brands such as Uber, Adidas, Puma, Facebook, and the NFL.
Farnell has teamed up with producer Toranpetto, a record producer, composer, and arranger who produces atmospheric instrumental mixes sampling from hip hop, soul, funk, and jazz. Toranpetto and Farnell first met online while on Instagram and decided to collaborate on an album of music sharing their love of jazz, soul and lo-fi hip hop. (“Lofi Hip Hop†refers to a genre of music that mashes up traditional hip-hop and jazz elements to create an atmospheric, instrumental soundscape.
