Lyrics: Until That Time

Used to read those lines on your face
Didn’t think that time could erase
I swear I keep each smile locked up in my heart
Till that time
Until we dine, until we dance and spin and laugh with the divine
Until that time
Until that time
Until that time

1978 was the year that I was born in, brother to two kin
Son of a father who had to work the late shift,
Straight after day shift to make sure we’d make it and Mom…
…She was like a superhero but had to stay grounded, so she remained cape-less,
But never was she faithless. In the face-less she trusted,
When life seemed busted and hard
Hard to understand as a child, how the soon to be news still allowed her to smile
And it’s hard, hard to understand as a man how the soon to be news still allowed her to stand

I still see your face in front of me
I still hear your voice, calling me

I believe in you, but you’ll be leaving soon
And I pray I live my life, like you lived yours too
I keep these memories, so my seeds will know
And I plant it now, and I watch my seeds grow

Another ordinary day at work and Mom’s not
Feeling up to speed but no need for MD
She thought and we thought that it was just fatigue
Till the day she collapsed ’cause she couldn’t breathe and it seemed…
..Seemed like the demon returned, determined to take over her again and concern
For her well being, grew quick as the air drew thick and the news we were avoiding became imminent.
Doc says that the cancer’s back (I’m sorry)
Six months to live was all they could give her
But my sis never told her that, told her hold her head high and things will be alright
And she did. Mama couldn’t wait to live, even talked about the day that she’d meet my kids
But the gray skies came and the lights went dim
Before she met them she met Him.

I swear I keep each smile locked up in my heart
Till that time
Until we dine, until we dance and spin and laugh with the divine
Until that time
Until that time
Until that time

A few months had passed since Mom had passed,
Still trying to get past it, how long will this last?
I’m trying to prep for my children’s’ future
My first born’s due in a few days and new days
Look promising; me being a Dad. Would’ve made Mama proud, I can see it now
In God I understand that our plans aint the same
This beautiful pain, is beautifully strange
See I hate that you’ve taken her, but thank you for taking her
Releasing her from us in the hands of Who created her
In a body no longer tainted, chest no longer hurts and soul beautifully painted
See I hate that you’ve taken her but thank you for taking
Releasing her from us in the hands of Who created her
See I hate you for taking her…
Releasing her from us in the hands of Who created her

I believe in you, but you’ll be leaving soon
And I pray I live my life, like you lived yours too
I keep these memories, so my seeds will know
And I plant it now, and I watch my seeds grow

I swear I keep each smile locked up in my heart
Till that time
Until we dine, until we dance and spin and laugh with the divine
Until that time
Until that time
Until that time
