J Kwest a Featured Blogger on Kidult Website

This week began what hopes to be a long relationship between J.Kwest and Pharrell Williams, founder and brainchild behind the website Kidult.com. K!dult is a website completely dedicated to young adults, filtering the news through a youth lens. The site recently announced that it will feature the perspective of Julian “J.Kwest” DeShazier, a minister, community organizer, and scholar in youth studies. Beginning today, Kidult.com will feature his regular perspective in a blog entitled, “Pursue the Pure.”

“My hope is to present a different perspective of youth life,” says the Chicago-bred musician. “Our generation is known for greed, corruption, and individualism, but there is an existential struggle in our young people as well. It’s a spiritual struggle, and I hope the blog will help us all as we seek change together.” J.Kwest’s blog is equally as innovative as K!dult itself, whereas few websites are situated to empower youth and courageous enough to integrate a spiritual perspective.

This also highlights a growing relationship between media and the inspirational hip-hop community. Recent album releases by Christian artists have helped increase visibility of the genre, and J.Kwest – who is a Holy Hip Hop Award winner – will continue in these efforts.

J.Kwest and the PureMusic Nation has already been featured at the National Hip Hop Political Convention, The Children’s Defense Fund, and Dr. Maya Angelou’s XM satellite program. While having completed degrees at Morehouse College and the University of Chicago Divinity School, J.Kwest is preparing to release, Batman & Batman, a collaboration project with BreevEazie, a fellow PureMusic artist, in the fall.
