Sphere of Hip Hop

Chef Camer1 has been heavy on the grind the past few years doing collaboration projects with the War Tour; a Bay Area hip-hop coalition. He has also racked up frequent flyer miles traveling the planet with his paint crew Gospel Graffiti. With 2011 already half way over and countless studio hours under his belt, we finally get a taste of what Chef Camer1 has been cooking up in the lab. Dabbling in all the elements of hip-hop since an adolescent, Chef is set for a double release baring his heart, soul, and way of life on the streets of San Francisco.

His first official release is Audio Motel (End of Earth Records / War Tour Productions), produced entirely by Error 96 of the underground collective Legion of Sub Par Emcees. The album is a journey into the mind of two individuals who are not pressured by the industry to produce the status quo. With Chef ‘s arsenal of styles and Error’s eclectic beat selection, Audio Motel is a fresh display of untainted creativity, raw lyrics, and steadfast confidence. His second official release is entitled Music Is My Silence (End of Earth Records / War Tour Productions). Produced by the artist himself, this album is a collection of material stating back from 2006 to 2010. Music Is My Silence displays Chef’s production versatility and maturing rhyme style. It’s a no holds barred, in your face, lyrical romp that touches on a wide variety of subjects that will keep your mind swirling. Available as a free download, Music Is My Silence is a hidden gem containing deep reflection and real life situations.

Cameron Moberg, aka Chef Camer1 states… “I remember listening to some new beats for the Legion of Sub Par Emcees and thinking “Dang, those are dope”. I hit up my friend Conduct to get more info about this diamond in the rough, Error 96. I contacted Error 96 and found out that he had made many of the beats for Insomniaddicts which got me even more juiced. He was so willing to work and I was excited to do a full album on beats other than my own. There’s something about hearing a fresh beat, getting excited, and just writing that makes the process a little more fun to me. Rather than hearing a loop of a sample over and over, slowly adding instruments, and getting to the finished product thinking “that’s a dope beat…but now i need a break from it.” ”

“After listening to the Error’s beats and picking the ones I wanted, I started to write. The writing process was unlike anything I had ever done before. I couldn’t get away from the song titles that Error had already choose for them as instrumentals. Error named every single track and I figured out a concept for each title. I think many might think that it would be constrictive to the expression when writing or that it might not allow any room for freedom conceptually, but I felt quite the opposite. I didn’t have to sit there for hours trying to force a subject, saying to myself “What am I going to write about?” ”

“After I recorded the 3rd song on the album. I knew that was going to be the single and the title of the album, “Audio Motel”. Audio Motel is a place that I go in my mind when I am writing. Life get’s so crazy sometimes, from seeing addicts on a daily basis to people shot right in front of me. I don’t say this to share war stories or to brag, but to show the fact that I need to go home and rest in my Fathers arms. I sit down, I start writing and creating, and God reveals so much to me. After that, I am ready to face it all again.”

Alexey Dolotov, aka Doloto recalls… “The first time Chef Camer1 played his single Audio Motel to me, I went ecstatic realizing what a great video that will be from my specialty; cinematography, filming, directing, editing, and all that good visual stuff. I wanted to make a video with him for a long time, I guess it was worth the wait.”

“This has been one of the most interesting, laid-back video shoots I ever had. Chef Camer1 has also directed music videos before, so with two creative minds working on one project, proved impressive results. Coming up with the concept and then planning the video shoot made the production flow smoothly. Both of us had to sacrifice our time, the little resources we had. But it is really impressive what can be done when you barely have any backing, and this is one of those examples.”

“I didn’t want to put my name on the project with the typical music video titles because I wanted my work to speak for itself. But in reality, without God it would be impossible, because He gives us all the strength in the midst of our weaknesses to move on, the wisdom to manage our time properly and finish the things we started, and sacrifice whatever we need to for the sake of Him. All glory and praise go back to God for giving us these gifts and allowing us to use it and give it back to Him with the product we create.”
